Maintenance Mechanic

Hi Tomas! What do you do at SMA Mineral and what does a typical workday look like for you?

- I am a maintenance mechanic at SMA Mineral's facility in Sandarne, and my role involves a lot of variation. A typical day might involve fixing machines, operating the loader, assisting with lime handling, and unloading the mesa, depending on the needs. If someone, for example, is sick, I’m always ready to help wherever necessary.

What is the biggest challenge in your role, and how do you handle it?

- I would say part of the job is being flexible and able to quickly adapt to whatever comes up. I do a little bit of everything—sometimes switching quickly between tasks depending on what’s needed at the moment. That’s part of the appeal.

What made you apply to SMA Mineral, and how do you like it here?

- Five years ago, I ran into a former employee who was about to retire, and he recommended that I apply for his job. I took his advice and got the job! Now, I work during the day, unlike what I did earlier in my career, and I really enjoy having regular working hours, being able to come home every afternoon. I’m really happy at SMA Mineral. It’s a great workplace, and I’m very satisfied with my decision to join.

How would you describe SMA Mineral to someone thinking about applying for a position with us?

- I would say it’s a rewarding job with fantastic colleagues and a great team atmosphere. We are a smaller group in the workshop, and since the process operators work in shifts, I meet different colleagues depending on the day. It works really well! Everyone is helpful and friendly. There’s a relaxed atmosphere, and it’s a great place to work!
