Our product range mainly consists of products based on the carbonate minerals limestone and dolomite. The business also includes a deposit for the extraction of quartz, as well as several other minerals and rocks that can be considered by-products. The carbonate stone is crushed, screened, and ground into fractions tailored to customer specifications, or further processed through burning and slaking.
The extraction of raw stone materials impacts the environment as the landscape is irreversibly altered when the raw material is taken from nature.
In conjunction with extraction, the surroundings are affected by noise from machinery and vibrations from blasting. The activity can also impact biodiversity, both positively and negatively, around the facilities. We work to minimize our impact on biodiversity, and in some cases, compensatory measures are also implemented.
When limestone and dolomite are processed into burned lime and burned dolomite, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere from both the raw stone material and the fuels used in the process.
Limestone burning also results in the emission of air pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, heavy metals, and dioxins.
All operations are carried out in accordance with the conditions specified in the permits obtained. Based on the conditions set in the environmental permit, a control program is established that describes the sampling and measurements to be performed at each facility. The results are reported in the annual environmental report. They are followed up by the supervisory authority and checked during inspection visits.
Going forward, we will continue to need to develop new technologies to minimize emissions and pollutants. We will also need to reduce the use of virgin raw materials by finding circular flows and managing by-products.
To find the best solutions, we will also focus on strengthening collaboration with customers and other companies.
