Using lime in conventional concrete provides numerous advantages. Lime has a naturally lubricating effect, is stable, and rarely reacts negatively with other substances.
Lime is one of the key components in cement production, helping to optimize the strength and durability of concrete.
Lime is also used to regulate pH levels in concrete and prevent issues such as reinforcement steel corrosion. By increasing the pH to an alkaline level, lime protects the steel from rust and contributes to the long-term durability of concrete.
Self-compacting concrete (SCC) reduces time-consuming and labor-intensive vibrations. In SCC, lime is used both to increase the paste volume and to improve the concrete’s flowability.
Finely ground limestone is also used in the production of roofing felt.
