Deep stabilization is an effective way to reduce the risk of settling and improve stability. The most commonly used method involves columns made from a mixture of lime and cement. Strength increases over time, and the process is environmentally friendly as it raises the often low pH levels in the soil.
Lime is also added to bind soil particles together, increasing soil strength and compactness. It makes the soil more resistant to settling and movement, which is especially important for construction, road building, and other infrastructure projects.
Clay soils can be difficult to work with as they are sensitive to water and can easily become too soft or too hard. Lime is used to stabilize clay soils by reducing water impact and improving drainage.
Adding lime also increases resistance to erosion.
