SMA Mineral - A world full of lime

Structural Liming

Structural liming creates a better environment for plant roots and improves the physical properties of the soil, which ultimately leads to better plant growth.

Clay soils cause problems

Clay soils with poor structure are a problem both for individual farmers and for the environment. Compact soils prevent water from penetrating into the ground. Instead, the water runs off, carrying away important nutrients, which leads to eutrophication of lakes and seas.

Structural lime improves growth

Structural lime is a type of lime (usually calcium carbonate) used to improve the structure of the soil.

It is primarily used in agriculture to improve drainage and aeration by reducing soil compaction.

By applying structural lime, the soil’s water-holding capacity increases while the soil’s workability improves. With structural liming, water can penetrate into the soil, and substances like phosphorus can be absorbed by plants. The effect is long-lasting, up to 15 years, and pays off quickly.
