SMA Mineral - A world full of lime

Kalkkimaa

Kalkkimaa Lime Plant, just north of Tornio in Finland, was founded in 1917. SMA Mineral bought the factory in 2000. In connection with the lime plant, there is the Kalkkimaa dolomite quarry, which was used for church construction in Keminmaa as early as the 1500s. At Kalkkimaa, crushed and ground products are produced for agriculture, animal feed, peat, asphalt, water treatment, flue gas cleaning, and the construction industry.

This site also contains the largest known dolomite deposit in the Nordic region: with a length of eight kilometers and a width of 300 meters, there are 750 million tons of dolomite.
