SMA Mineral - A world full of lime

Mo i Rana

The shaft kiln in Mo i Rana was built in 1974 to supply AS Norsk Jernverk with lime for steel production. In the 1980s, the kiln was converted to be fueled with CO gas and was taken over by SMA Mineral in 1999. The limestone comes from Tromsdalen in Verdal. In the 1990s, production of dolomite also began, based on dolomite from the Seljeli dolomite quarry about 60 km south of Mo i Rana.
