The Röyttä lime plant in Torneå was built in connection with Outokumpu’s steel mill in 2002 for the production of quicklime and was then the largest lime kiln in the Nordic region.
The facility was expanded in 2005 with a hydration plant and the production of slaked lime, primarily for the mining and pulp industries. Since 2015, the lime kiln has been fueled with CO gas from the steel mill’s chrome converter, replacing oil and making the process more environmentally friendly.
